## Supported Independent Living (SIL)

Support for daily tasks and skill-building, delivered wherever your loved one lives — shared housing or a private residence.

What SIL Actually Is

### Support wrapped around wherever home actually is

Supported Independent Living is support for daily tasks and skill-building, delivered wherever your loved one lives — shared housing, a private residence, whatever suits them. It isn't a single building type or a fixed level of staffing. It's a support model, wrapped around wherever home actually is.

#### What SIL Covers

- Personal care — bathing, dressing, grooming

- Meal preparation and cooking

- Medication management

- Household tasks — cleaning, laundry, organising

- Community engagement — support to take part in social activities and local life

#### Who SIL Is For

To be considered for SIL, a participant generally needs to:

- Be an NDIS participant with a funded plan

- Require regular support or supervision to live independently

- Have those needs assessed through an NDIS Functional Capacity Assessment

SIL is generally intended for participants with higher support needs. If day-to-day need is lighter, other supports may be a better and more cost-effective fit — worth an honest conversation before assuming SIL is the right starting point.

Funding & Rights

### What SIL funding covers — and what it doesn't

SIL funding generally covers support staff and services. It does not usually cover rent, groceries, or personal expenses. Confirming exactly what your plan covers, with your NDIS planner or Support Coordinator, avoids an unpleasant surprise later.

- Choice and control over how support is delivered

- The ability to choose your own SIL provider

- A service agreement that clearly sets out what support will be provided

- Privacy, confidentiality, and the right to raise a complaint

#### SIL vs ILO

#### Why Annzac Care

Annzac Care is building out its Supported Independent Living services for families across the Augustine Heights and Ipswich corridor. We don't yet have published case studies to share, and we won't invent ones to fill that gap — as we work with participants and families, and with their consent, we'll add real examples here.
